Miss A. L. was a young girl who mysteriously disappeared through a dimensional hole that formed near the banks of the River Thames, between Godstow and Folly Bridge, in 1865. She was found four months later, soaked and nearly unconscious near the riverbank, and later told that she had been to a strange land in which time and physics behaved differently, and believed only a few hours had passed.

Six years later, she disappeared again, this time through a looking-glass that she claimed started to show the same strange properties of the "rabbit hole", and led to the same mysterious realm in which logic has no meaning. This time, although the journey through the strange land appeared longer from the girl's perspective, only seven minutes passed before she was returned through the same mirror. She returned with her internal organs and molecular biochemistry reversed, and could no longer digest regular food. As a result, she perished in November, 1871.

Appearances[]

  • The New Traveller's Almanac, by Alan Moore (2002)

Notes[]

  • She represents the League universe's version of Alice from Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There. The initials "A. L." reference Alice Liddell, the real girl who inspired the character.
