Universe | Legend of Zelda |
Achemen are vampire-like bat-demons that are part of the monster horde that seek Ganon's resurrection in The Adventure of Link.
Hanging from the ceilings of their abode, they may resemble an Ache at first glance, albeit a deep red one. When it senses an intruder nearby it will swoop down like an Ache. However, when the acheman touches ground, it transforms into a winged devil that spits fire at intruders. After a few volleys of fire, the acheman will retreat into bat form and return to the ceiling. The acheman is significantly stronger than its Ache relatives, but can still be killed with Link's blade. Link gains 10 experience points for defeating an Acheman.
The Achemen also appeared on the island republic of Koridai, again serving as Ganon's minions during the events of Link: The Faces of Evil.

Notes[]
- The Acheman is possibly a reference to the Devil from the 1984 NES/Famicom game Devil World, designed by Shigeru Miyamoto and Takeshi Tezuka. In addition to the similar (though skinnier) appearance, the fireball's sprite as well as its sound effect originated from Devil World as an attack delivered by Tamagon, the game's protagonist.
