Alim Coelacanth (nicknamed "Merdude") is an amphibious merman-like creature born in the domed undersea city of Atlantis. His surname comes from the prehistoric fish that he claims to be related to.
Biology[]
Alim's origins are not known. While the other Atlanteans are human, he belongs to an unknown species (possibly a mutation).
He is a fish-like humanoid creature with a merman tail, blue skin and webbed hands. He can breathe underwater just as well as on land, and can communicate with sea life telepathically, summoning them when he needs their help. His lifespan is long, as he has lived for well over 200 years. As the rightful king of Atlantis, he is the only one who can wield the king's trident.
History[]
Alim was born and raised in Atlantis, but never met anyone like him. In the late eighteenth century, he left the city to search for others of his kind, but to no avail. After searching for 200 years, he returned to Atlantis with the help of the Ninja Turtles.
Before he could get there, however, the villainous Shredder found the domed city. Unknown to Alim, a prophecy stated that a "strange creature" would return to Atlantis and be crowned its rightful king. The Atlanteans, upon seeing Shredder and his mutant lackeys, believed the mutant Bebop to be their prophecized king.
When Alim and the turtles arrived, King Bebop sent the guards after them. Since two hundred years had passed, the Atlanteans failed to recognize Alim as one of their own, but an Atlantean woman named Hepax Lagamina, who had been imprisoned for doubting Bebop's status as the rightful king, believed Alim to be the one that the prophecy referred to, and convinced him to challenge Bebop for the throne. According to Atlantean tradition, Bebop was forced to accept the challenge, during which Alim proved that he was the rightful king by successfully wielding the king's trident and defeating Bebop.
