Leighton in his original human form.
Dr. Allen Leighton was a scientist who took part on a plan to force the different nations of Earth to unite in peace against a common enemy by staging a faux alien invasion. To do so, Leighton was secretly injected with the genetic material of a small lifeform from the planet Theta. With the help of fellow scientists, he faked his own death and was slowly transformed into a monstrous, nitrogen-breathing humanoid.
History[]
At first, Leighton's transformation occurred seemingly without incidents. What wasn't anticipated, though, was that the process started to trigger mental symptoms as well as physical ones. During one incident, Leighton lost his mind and became viciously hostile. Later, he expressed extreme guilt over the fact that he had faked his own death and that his wife, Yvette, believed him to be dead.
When the time came to land his faux spaceship, Leighton didn't head towards the United Nations headquarters as planned. Instead, he went back to his town and landed near the countryside, where he was shot by startled huntsmen. The wounded Leighton still managed to reach the laboratory, where he was met by his wife and colleagues. As he died, he made a gesture symbolizing protection against evil which was familiar to Yvette, thus allowing her to recognize him and understand what he had become.
