Dr. Aloysius James Animo is a mad scientist and one of the more frequent enemies of Ben Tennyson
Appearance[]
Original Continuity[]
Five years prior to the original series, Animo was shown to be an average looking male human with brown hair kept in a ponytail. Over the course of five years, he became severely jaundiced with chipped teeth and white hair.
In flashbacks in Ben 10: Omniverse, he was shown to have a more greenish skin tone and is even thinner
In Ben 10: Alien Force, his appearance has changed considerably. He is now very muscular with a more natural skin tone. His eyes were black with yellow sclera.
In Ben 10: Ultimate Alien, he looked mostly the same as he did in Alien Force except he was less muscular, had a completely normal skin tone and white sclera.
In Ben 10: Omniverse, he is once again severaly jaundiced and extremely thin. His ears are pointed and he has a glass dome over his exposed brain. He has a pair of synthetic antennae on top of the dome.
In the future of the original series, his entire head is encased in a glass dome filled with an unspecified liquid. The dome has a single antenna on each side at roughly ear level. His head is attached to the body of an albino gorilla by a metallic collar.
In the future of Omniverse, he looks mostly the same as he did in the original series future but the liquid is now purple, his brain is encased in a glass dome and he has two antennae on top of the dome in addition to the sides. The collar is more complex with three vents instead of one and the dome is attached by tubing rather than being directly attached. The gorilla body has three bolts on each arm and one on each leg.
Reboot Continuity[]
In the reboot series, Animo has more rounded facial features due to the different animation style and he has a natural skin tone. He was shown in a flashback to have had buckteeth and braces as a child.
In his first mutant form, he had the lower body of a wolf, the upper body of a gorilla, the head of a wolf and two octopus tentacles attached to his back.
In his second mutant form, he had green legs resembling those of an amphibian, the body of a gorilla, and a sail on his back. His human head was once again encased in a glass dome. He wore metal braces, a metal belt and a metal collar. This form was later given two sets of wings.
His third mutant form resembles his second mutant form except for two long horns sticking out of his chest and two shorter horns on his back. His legs are goat-like and he has a long tail. He has claws on his hands and feet.
Personality[]
Animo suffers from delusions of grandeur, believing he is destined for scientific great despite his unethical practices. In the original continuity, he was shown to be increasingly unstable as the timeline progressed. His future self appeared to be significantly more stable than he is in Omniverse.
Powers and Abilities[]
Animo's main power is his ability to telepathically control animals though his capabilities with it are seemingly limited as he frequently uses technology to enhance this ability. Despite appearing to be a frail and unhealty man in the original series, he was strong enough to wield heavy gauntlets as weapons. He is also a technological genius, being able to build DNA altering devices with objects that can be bought from an appliance store. As D'Void in Ben 10: Alien Force, he was nearly invulnerable and possessed superhuman strength. His mutant forms in both continuities have heightened strength, speed and agility. His mutant form in the reboot can fly and breathe underwater.
Weaknesses[]
It is implied that certain species, such as semi-sapient ones, cryptids and aliens are significantly harder or possibly impossible for him control without his equipment. Several of his mutant animals in the original series were easily returned to normal. Animo is overconfident to a point where he nearly killed himself trying to replicate the accident that mutated Kevin Levin. In the future, if his head is removed from his gorilla body, he is basically defenseless.

Notes[]
- Animo is one of the few characters in the entire franchise to have a canon height. His height is established in his debut episode, Washington B.C. in which it is given as part of a description by a store security guard
- Different Ben 10 crew members give different answers as to whether or not the future Animo in the original series and the one in Omniverse are from the same timeline
- Dimension 23's Animo is a man named Dr. Vegeto. Nothing else is known about him though it can be assumed he has a plant motif based on his name
- According to the art director of Omniverse, Derrick J. Wyatt, the version of Animo native to Mad Ben's Dimension wears clothes similar to those of a Tusken Raider from Star Wars
- Animo had a cameo in The Secret Saturdays in which he appeared on a computer screen listing known associates of the Yeti known as V. V. Argost. This created speculation of a shared universe between the two shows, which was confirmed three years after the show ended when a crossover with Omniverse aired. Several years later, it came out that Warner Bros. execs rejected a pitch for a complete connected universe featuring Ben 10, Generator Rex and The Secret Saturdays.
- Ben considers Animo to be a B-list villain.
