Anne Lokensgard is a chimeric being, speculated by entomologist Dr. Rocky Bronzino to be "neither human nor insect, but something in between". She has insect mouthpieces inside her mouth and is capable of shooting copious amounts of silk to enclose victims into cocoons.
Several corpses were found enclosed in such cocoons in her house, including that of her husband, Michael, who had been reported missing. It's not known whether she killed these victims for nourishment or to silence them after they found out about her nature, although in Michael's case, the latter is strongly implied.
Her son, Dylan Lokensgard, was born with the same insectoid features and abilities, which started to manifest in his teenage years.
