Princess Aquata is the fourth daughter of King Triton and one of the seven princesses of Atlantica, along with her sisters Attina, Alana, Adella, Arista, Andrina and Ariel. They're all one year apart in age.

- Prior to the release of Ariel's Beginning, it was generally believed that Aquata was the firstborn princess, based on the order they appear in the "Daughters of Triton" song (Aquata, Andrina, Arista, Attina, Adella and Alana; with Ariel being the youngest). This is even reflected in some spin-off material, such as comics, which suggested Aquata was the first heir to the throne. Ariel's Beginning confirms that the correct birth order is: Attina, Alana, Adella, Aquata, Arista, Andrina, and Ariel.
- Ironically, there's a mistake in that very same film, in which Adella claims to be two years older than Ariel, when she should in fact be four years older than her in that order.
