Atmospheric Beasts, as their name indicate, are a speculative kind of animal rumored to inhabit the upper layers of the atmosphere; and have been proposed as an explanation for numerous UFO sightings. They are wingless lighter-than-air creatures and spend their entire lives airborne amidst the clouds.
In the early days of UFO research, the idea of organic life forms native to the atmosphere was almost as popular as that of extraterrestrial spacecraft. There exist numerous documented encounters with such cryptids, and their existence has been extensively documented by such renowned authors as Charles Fort, Leonard Cramp, Trevor J. Constable, Ivan T. Sanderson, and Karl Shuker.
Biology[]
The physical appearance of these creatures varies according to different witnesses, and it's possible that they might be capable of shapeshifting. Most atmospheric beasts appear to be amoebic in nature, sometimes partially transparent and amorphous, sometimes cloud-like, sometimes spherical, and often luminous. They range in size from a few meters to kilometers in length, and may be capable of changing colors to camouflage themselves like a cuttlefish, becoming essentially invisible. They're often seen gathered in groups. In some cases, they may have tentacles.
Atmospheric beasts are often thought of as being related to the well-documented but still enigmatic phenomenon known as "star jelly": a gelatinous foul-smelling substance that reportedly falls from the skies and takes only a few hours to evaporate completely. Many researchers have proposed that it represents the remains of deceased atmospheric beasts.
