|Behind the Scenes|
Atomic Sharks are radioactive sharks that appear in the Syfy Channel's movie Atomic Shark. There were two of them seen in the film, but there could be more.
They are sharks that look similar to sharks of the genus Carcharodon. They are horribly mutated, being covered in broken blisters that span their bodies, revealing red muscular tissue. At times, large pustules filled with an orange fluid will appear on their bodies shortly before bursting. The bursting pustules do not visibly harm the sharks.
These sharks were mutated by radiation leaking from a sunken Soviet submarine. One of them then hunted marine wildlife and humans at San Diego. It dies after jumping out of the water and onto one of the islands in the Islas Coronado, stranding itself and causing it to overheat and explode. The other one is not seen until the very end of the movie and does not attack.
Nuclear fission takes place inside the shark's body causing it to glow, emit radiation and intense heat. This intense heat causes nearby objects to be set on fire whenever it leaps out of the water, but it does not cause the surrounding water to boil.
It has to be cooled down by seawater, otherwise it will overheat and explode like an atom bomb, but on a much smaller scale. The blast is not known to be radioactive.
