Beedrill is a Bug/Poison-type Pokémon species originally identified in the Kanto region. Its life cycle includes a larval stage known as Weedle, and a pupal stage known as Kakuna. Wild populations of this species are known to occur in the regions of Kanto, Johto, and Kalos.

Exposure to the Mega Stone known as Beedrillite causes Beedrill to temporarily transform into a larger and more powerful form known as Mega Beedrill.

Biology[]

Weedle[]

Weedle

Beedrill start life as Weedle, a 30 cm caterpillar-like Pokémon with a large horn on its head and a stinger on its tail, both of which can deliver venom. Its body is divided in seven segments, each with a pair of short feet. Its body is brown in coloration while the feet and the nose are pink.

Like other larval bug Pokémon, Weedle can shoot strings of silk to attack. It spends most of its time on the forest floors eating leaves. It uses its keen sense of smell to distinguish between different kinds of leaves, selecting the ones it finds more tasty.

Kakuna[]

Kakuna

When Weedle evolves, it encloses its body in a cocoon-like structure, generating Kakuna. This is a mostly immobile Pokémon that spends most of its time clinging to tree trunks, and usually defends itself merely by hardening its shell when it needs to.

In dire situations, however, Kakuna is still capable of sticking out its stinger and poisoning its attacker. Its body temperature increases as it gathers energy to evolve into its imago stage.

Beedrill[]

The imago form of the species, Beedrill, is a 1 meter tall bipedal wasp-like creature with a body divided in three segments: a head, a thorax, and an abdomen. The head contains a pair of compound eyes and relatively short elbowed antennae. From the thorax sprout a pair of legs, a pair of arms ending in sharp triangular stingers, and two pairs of transparent wings. The abdomen ends in another stinger. The whole body is mostly yellow in coloration, with black stripes on the abdomen, grey limbs, and red eyes. The rare shiny variant is green with blue eyes.

Like a wasp, Beedrill is known to form swarms to attack people who disturb them or venture into their territory. They use their stingers to poison prey, which they will bring back to their nest to eat.
