The Bowtruckle is a species of small, magical creatures associated with trees. They're commonly found inhabiting European forests, principally in southern Germany, western England and certain locations of Scandinavia. They typically feed on insects, but are also known to appreciate Fairy eggs and woodlice.
A well-camouflaged beast, the Bowtruckle appears like a quasi-humanoid figure made of twigs, with a couple of brown eyes. Although generally harmless, Bowtruckles can also be viciously protective of their home trees, and are known to attack humans if they threaten to cut down or harm the tree in any way. Each of the Bowtruckle's arms ends in two sharp fingers, with which it attempts to gouge at the eyes of tree-cutting malefactors. Besides that, Bowtruckles are also valued for their ability to pick up locks.
The British Ministry of Magic classifies the Bowtruckle as an XX species, which means "harmless / may be domesticated".
