The Brazilian Cocorada is a sapient species of human-sized insects native to the Amazon rainforest.

This species has evolved a highly-developed form of mimicry; being able to alter their appearance to look just like humans.

Biology[]

In their real form, Cocoradas look like gigantic mantises. Unlike mantises, however, their diet is primarily herbivorous, and they're highly averse to the idea of doing harm to other insects. Besides plants and vegetables, they're also fond of consuming sugar-based snacks.

They spin web-based cocoons to sleep in, and can defend themselves from harm by immobilizing other creatures and encasing them alive inside cocoons. Despite their size, they can cling upside-down to ceilings with no difficulty. They also have a much greater radiation tolerance than humans.

Somehow, despite being insects, Cocoradas are genetically-compatible with humans. Their gestation period is very short, and they give birth to gelatinous oval eggs.

Culture and society[]

Cocoradas live in hive-based societies ruled by a queen, although male and female drones still form mating pairs and reproduce on their own. Female drones can be promoted to queens.

They keep giant beetles as pets, which, like their masters, are capable of mimicry, in their case taking the form of small dogs.
