Cacturne is a Grass/Dark-type Pokémon species first identified in the Hoenn region, although wild populations can also be found in Sinnoh. Its juvenile stage is known as Cacnea.

Biology[]

Cacturne appears like a humanoid cactus with round yellow eyes and a series of holes in the place where a mouth would normally be. Like normal cacti, it inhabits deserts, and its skin is covered in thorns for protection. It is usually green in coloration, although there also exists a rare shiny variant which is orange.

This Pokémon spends the days standing still in order to conserve moisture, but becomes active and mobile at night, when it insistently follows prey until the targets exhaust themselves. Sometimes lone travelers will find themselves being pursued by a group of Cacturne, which will wait like vultures for the traveler to become too tired to move before they attack.

According to some Pokédex entries, Cacturne have inhabited the deserts for thousands of years, and as a result their blood is now made of sand.

Cacnea[]

Cacnea

Cacturne's juvenile stage, Cacnea, is a medium-sized spherical humanoid with a yellow crown-shaped flower on top of its head, which releases luring scents to attract prey. Once the prey approaches, Cacnea will shoot thorns from its body to bring it down.

Unlike Cacturne, Cacnea's eyes are white. Its body can store enough water to survive for 30 days without any. Its flower is said to bloom once a year, and to become more pretty and fragrant the more arid the environmental conditions get.
