Well-armed, with great size, an impregnable carapace, and a self-declared "honorable" mission, this noble crustacean is a formidable foe. One may only hope it has a soft underbelly.

Cannon Crabs are massive crabs indigenous to the Deluded Depths. Possessing a thick exoskeletal carapace they are tough foes to contend with, being immune to injury from conventional weaponry under normal means; however, their armor is easily cracked by cannonballs and depth charges and an individual can kill one by flipping the cruel crustacean over to reveal their vulnerable underbelly. Alice Liddell did just this during her travels through their home environ.

Besides a particularly sharp chela, their name is not a misnomer and they are armed with a cannon for one of their arms. Smoking a cigar they will use it to light its fuse to fire a cannonball at targets. Surprisingly this cannon arm is actually weaker than that of their other arm and it tends to be destroyed before the cannon crabs themselves are slain.

Strangely, Cannon Crabs declare themselves as being on an "honorable" mission, which seems to consist specifically of targeting Alice. This may indicate that they know she has begun to lose her sanity again and are attempting to save Wonderland by killing her, likely in order to stop The Dollmaker and his Infernal Train by doing so. They therefore serve neither The Dollmaker nor The Red Queen.

Appearances[]

  • Alice: Madness Returns (First appearance)

Notes[]

  • Revealed in The Art of Alice: Madness Returns, the Cannon Crab had a female counterpart that was to perform on stage with the Oyster Starlets. They wore flamboyantly pink costumes including can-can skirts and feather boas, but the idea was scrapped.
  • Although it is unlikely, the Cannon Crab may be loosely based off a crab that appeared in the Caucaus scene in the first book.
