A Carnotaurus is one of the many theropods that originate from InGen and appeared in the Jurassic Park series.

Overview[]

Like every theropod created by InGen, the Carnotaurus was recreated as a entirely different animal thanks to its genetics originating from modern animals. It is one of the many animals that were used as a genetic material for the hybrid, Indominus rex.

In their film depictions, they are a little different from their real counterparts. Being slightly oversized and having a broader snout, pronated wrists like all of InGen's cloned theropods, claws on all four fingers rather than just three of the four as in the originals, and their speed was reduced.

While it didn't appear in The Lost World: Jurassic Park, the Carnotaurus do indeed appear in the novel, where they have the ability to camouflage themselves by altering the coloration of their skin, similar to a cuttlefish or a chameleon. They are also presumably nocturnal, given that they hunt at night, and have fear of lights.

In Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, it is revealed that there are surviving numbers of this species, even after the 2015 incident of Isla Nublar. However, the eruption of Mt. Sibo threatens the entire dinosaur population of the island. A Carnotaurus first appears when it attacks Owen Grady, Franklin Webb, and Claire Dearing as the volcano was about to explode, but was interrupted when it fought against a Sinoceratops. After the short fight, it begins charging towards the humans not before Rexy pinned it down and died in the process. One theropod was captured by Eli Mills and was sent to Lockwood Manor in mainland United States where it was going to be auctioned to the rich, but was released thanks to Maisie Lockwood.
