Sauropods are a group of long-necked, herbivorous dinosaurs. They are notable by their extremely long necks and tails, and massive, pillar-like body. The most well-known sauropods in real life are the Brontosaurus (now reverted to its correct name, Apatosaurus in most sources) and the Brachiosaurus. Certain exceptions to the long neck rule have occurred, however, such as in King Kong's Diablosaurus.
Despite being one of the major dinosaur lineages anyone will think about when the word "dinosaur" is thrown around, they do not appear nearly as often in media sources as many of the others, such as ceratopsians, tyrannosaurs, dromaeosaurs, stegosaurs or hadrosaurs. However, oftentimes when creators are attempting to make massive land animals that are not dragons, they will look to the sauropod.
