Count Orlok is a century-old Transylvanian vampire noted for his gaunt, inhuman appearance with pointed incisor teeth and long claw-like fingers.

Biology[]

Feared by the inhabitants of Transylvania, Orlok is a master of supernatural creatures with command over werewolves and swarms of plague-ridden rats. Being a vampire, he is a creature of the night who sustains himself on the blood of the living, and is capable of establishing psychic links with his servants and intended victims, even at long distances. Unlike the case of most vampires, however, Orlok's victims don't seem to become vampires after death.

He needs to sleep in a coffin containing the "cursed dirt from the fields of the Black Death". Sunlight is fatal to him: being exposed to it causes him to be reduced to dust.

History[]

Orlok lived in an old castle in the Carpathian Mountains and preyed on local inhabitants, many of which feared him so much they dared not even leave their houses after dark.

In 1838, with the help of his brainwashed servant; a real estate agent named Knock; he contacted Thomas Hutter to sell him a property in the city of Wisborg, Germany. When the transaction was completed, the Count arrived there in a ship filled with swarms of plague-infested rats, and coffins containing the cursed soil that he needed to survive.

Having moved to the house he had purchased, Orlok took a deep interest in Hutter's wife, Ellen, who he had already seen in a photograph. Once she became aware of the vampire's nature, Ellen intentionally allowed Orlok to come over and feed on her, even knowing that she would die from it; in the hopes that the Count would be distracted long enough that he wouldn't have time to flee when the sun rose. When Orlok noticed the danger, it was too late, as the sunlight passed through the window, reducing him to a pile of dust.

Notes[]

  • The story of Nosferatu is actually an unauthorized adaptation of Bram Stoker's novel Dracula, with character names altered for copyright reasons. Count Orlok, naturally, takes the role that Count Dracula had in the original.
