As portrayed in Creepshow.
This unknown creature is an extremely voracious beast, similar to a six-legged Tasmanian devil in shape and behavior. It was discovered in 1834 by an antarctic expedition in the small island of Paella; south of Tierra del Fuego, South America; and somehow remained alive after spending more than 140 years locked up in a crate in Horlicks University, USA.
Biology[]
This creature vaguely resembles a Tasmanian devil in shape and size, but possesses six legs, which are described as "dry and brown and scaly as a desert reptile". Its paws bear enormous claws that can tear flesh apart easily. The rest of its body seems to be covered in black fur, and its head has been compared to that of a young lynx. It has a couple of green-gold eyes which are similar to those of an owl, but smaller. It produces a wide range of vocalizations, including growls, snarls, and gobbles; but is most notable for emitting a shrieking sound that is reminiscent of a teapot's whistle.
This creature is extraordinarily strong for its size; able to lift humans from the ground and kill them easily. Apparently, it consumes not just the flesh, but even the teeth and bones of its victims, leaving no traces of them behind. Amazingly, it's been demonstrated to be capable of devouring three adult humans in a span of a few hours; although the fact that it had just awakened from a 140 years hibernation probably accounts for its hunger.
Appearances[]
- "The Crate", by Stephen King (1979)
- Creepshow (1982)
Notes[]
- When the story was adapted for the film Creepshow, the creature was portrayed as a bipedal ape-like creature, rather than a hexapod.
