Creepers are explosive organisms from the Overworld with a suicidal desire to kill any human they find. The Creeper's face is an iconic motif of ancient Overworld structures.

Biology[]

They are green blocky vertebrates with four hooved legs. Their explosive power comes from a cache of gunpowder in their abdomen, which is curiously ignited by a tripwire to a cranial nerve instead of their spine. When struck by lightning, their destructive power is increased. Cats and ocelots appear to be their natural enemies, as they flee from them without hesitation. Though they also strike fear into wolves.

Mechanical components[]

An anatomical drawing from the Minecraft Mobestiary shows that Creepers have mechanical parts, or organs identical to machines, embedded inside their body.

  • A tripwire hooked into the front of their cranial cavity. While possibly an interface to a cranial nerve, it's more likely that it's activated by opening their jaw.
  • A bladder opened by the tripwire. It most likely contains a small amount of lava, or possibly a chemical catalyst, for priming their explosives. This process is reversible.
  • A supply of gunpowder, with identical markings to the larger "TNT" blocks.

  • Minecraft (2009)
  • Minecraft: Story Mode (2015-2019)

Notes[]

  • Notch described the texture of their skin as being crunchy like dry leaves. Fans have taken this to mean that they're plants in some way.
  • TNT is a completely different substance from gunpowder in real life.
  • While the species has no official binomial name, the fan-made T-shirt with their anatomy calls it "Creepus explodus", however this is currently non-canonical.
