His children were even more fierce than the Dämonfeuer. Willing to sacrifice themselves for him. We avoided them and followed the Dämonfeuer high into the mountains, where we discovered his terrible lair, filled with treasures stolen from all the villages. The bones at the entrance of the cave were too many to count. If we did not know better, we would have guessed it was the entrance to Hell.

A Dämonfeuer is a humanoid dragon-like Wesen species known for their fire-breathing abilities.

Biology[]

As Wesen, Dämonfeuer can alternate between a human form and a woged form, the latter of which is a reptilian humanoid with scales, spikes, head crests, and sharp teeth. They survive on a diet rich in lipids and are capable of vaporizing their own fat and mixing it with methane, to expel a highly flammable fog from their mouths. It's not clear how they ignite this gas to produce their distinctive fire breath, although it has been speculated that they might generate static electricity for this purpose. The fire that they generate is hot enough to easily melt lockers.

Culture and society[]

Dämonfeuer are a relatively rare species and traditionally inhabit caves and other underground lairs, such as abandoned mines. They're drawn towards copper, and are known to hoard it compulsively. Dämonfeuer exhibit fierce protectiveness towards their mates, and filial loyalty towards their parents. They have a strong warrior-like code of honor, and consider failing to protect someone to be the highest shame, and dying in combat against a worthy adversary to be the noblest kind of death. In the past, Dämonfeuer had a habit of kidnapping young maidens to use them as bait to bring opponents such as knights and Grimms towards their lair, where they would engage in battle.
