Biology[]
Deathbottles are carnivorous plants. Their digestive sacs are buried into the soil, to serve as a trap to Desert Hoppers that may accidentally hop on top of them. When that happens, the Hopper falls through a thin membrane straight into the plant's digestive sac, which is filled with venomous spikes. The venom has a paralyzing effect that prevents the Desert Hopper from escaping. The plant contracts itself to impale the victim and feed on its body fluids. After feeding, it regrows the membrane that conceals its deadly sac, and the membrane itself is soon covered in desert sand, concealing its location completely.
The flowers of a Deathbottle are made to look and smell like the carcass of a dead Ocean Flish in order to attract Bumblebeetles. The flowers have an opening resembling a wound for the Bumblebeetle to enter. Once inside, the beetle crawls into a tunnel filled with sticky seeds that cling to its body; and afterwards activates a spring-like mechanism that makes the plant catapult the beetle away. After that, the beetle returns to its quest to find a real rotting Flish, where it will lay its larvae. The seeds of the Deathbottle will also grow in the soil fertilized by the dead Flish.
