The Deathgleaner is a huge, predatory bat species which inhabits the cold Kansas deserts five million years into the future, in a time when the Earth is undergoing another ice age.
Biology[]
These bats are larger than their modern day ancestors, achieving a wingspan of about a meter. Unlike their ancestors, they are completely diurnal - as the desert nights are too cold to allow much activity - and highly opportunistic; feeding on any meat they can get, dead or alive. Spinks are common prey for them, as are infant Desert Rattlebacks. Like several modern day bats, though, they still rest upside down inside communal caves and are highly gregarious, going as far as to regurgitate some of their food in order to feed a hungry companion who didn't manage any successful hunt.
