Dedenne is an Electric/Fairy-type Pokémon species, closely related to Pikachu and not known to evolve or mature into any other documented Pokémon.
Also known as the "Antenna Pokémon", the Dedenne has a rounded, hamster-like body shape and branching whiskers that appear to have merged together at some point in the past. An aradicular tooth protrudes from their upper jaw. In regular members of the species, the body is a tannish-orange and the buccal pouches of this species are a deep orange in color and can hold and charge electricity. The belly and the inside of their rounded ears are a pale yellow. However, the rare coloration of the Dedenne is instead a dark brown with white buccal pouches and an orange belly and inner ear. All members have black ears and star-tipped tails.
This Pokémon's round shape and antennae-like whiskers make it very distinctive. In fact, its whiskers serve as antennae. By sending and receiving electrical waves, it can communicate with others over vast distances. It has a habit of sticking its tail into sockets to absorb electricity from power plants or from outlets in houses, that it fires from its whiskers. Its Discharge attack shoots off in four directions, passing through obstacles and stunning any fighters it hits along the way.
Origin[]
Dedenne seems to be based on a Japanese dormouse, gerbil, or hamster combined with a television antenna.
Name Origin[]
Dedenne may be a combination of 電気 denki (electricity) and antenne (French for antenna).
Notes[]
- No other Pokémon has the same type combination as Dedenne.
- Every Generation has had its own electric rodent (or "Pikachu") variant: Generation I introduced the original Pikachu and Raichu, Generation II introduced Pichu, Generation III introduced Plusle and Minun, Generation IV introduced Pachirisu, Generation V introduced Emolga, and Dedenne was introduced in Generation VI. Generations VII and VIII continued this trend with Togedemaru and Morpeko, respectively.
