Delibird is an Ice/Flying-type Pokémon species first identified in the Johto region and known for its sac-shaped hollow tail which can be used to store items.

Biology[]

Delibird is a portly omnivorous bird with short wings and red and white coloration; although the rare shiny variant is magenta. It's most well-known for its tail, which is a tubular hollow structure with an opening at the tip and can be used to store numerous items, especially food, which a mother Delibird usually stores for its chicks. If attacked, however, it may also throw the food at its aggressor, presumably to distract it while the Delibird makes its escape.

Delibird is also known to carry both healing and explosive items in its tail, which can be thrown at its opponents in battle. As its name suggests, this Pokémon has been known to generously deliver food to people who are stranded on mountainous trails, frequently saving their lives as a result. A Delibird is often seen holding the tip of its tail with either its wing or beak. As a result, it looks like it's carrying a bag.

This Pokémon makes its nests in snowy mountainous regions, often at the edge of cliffs. Although it prefers cold weather, it may also tolerate warmer temperatures, such as those found in the Alolan archipelago. Besides that, wild Delibird populations can also be found in regions such as Johto, Unova and Kalos.

In spite of its penguin-like appearance, Delibird is fully capable of flight and is known to form flocks, in which the Delibird with the biggest tail is elected leader.

Notes[]

  • This Pokémon's appearance and habit of delivering gifts are naturally based on the popular image of Santa Claus, although the real Santa is also known to exist in the Pokémon anime universe.
