Domo-kun is a small brown-furred bipedal creature who acts as the mascot of the Japanese public broadcasting company NHK. He has a stout body, short limbs and a flat noseless face consisting of a perpetually-open mouth filled with sharp teeth, and a pair of tiny black eyes. Despite his somewhat frightening appearance - mostly provoked by the teeth - he's actually a friendly and gentle fellow.
Domo's species - which hasn't been identified - is omnivorous and oviparous, and also capable of sweating, suggesting that he might be some kind of egg-laying mammal (in other words, a monotreme). His favorite food is nikujaga and he notably detests apples. He's first seen as an egg in a snow field which rolls into the ground and ends up inside the den inhabited by an elderly rabbit called Mr. Usaji, a bat called Maya, and her son Mario. From the egg hatches Domo, who becomes their new roommate. He also becomes friends with a teenage weasel girl called Tashanna. However his species is unfortunately extinct, except for Domo himself.
Notes[]
- While it's unknown what his species is, the fact that he communicates by saying "Domo" could imply that "Domo" is the name of his species.
- Domo's species is implied to be monotremes, since they seem to be mammals, but lay eggs.
