The Dream Eater are a race of creatures that appeared in the Kingdom Hearts series.

Biology[]

Most Dream Eaters have a animal appearances to them, sometimes with a bit of a theme to them, such as the Neko Cat Dream Eater having a music theme to them, or Kooma Bear having a bit of a super hero theme to them. Spirit Dream Eaters look colorful, while Nightmare Dream Eaters have a darker and sometimes purple theme to them with red eyes.

History[]

The first of the Dream Eaters that were seen was a creature known as Charithy, believed to have been made by a keyblade wielder known as the Master of Masters. Chirithies used to help various keyblade wielders in their adventures to hunt Heartless. However, when a Charithy becomes a Dark Chirithy, it is to be believed that their keyblade wielder partner was corrupted by dark forces. After the keyblade war, many of the Chirithy creatures decided to merge with their keyblade wielding partners and so became new breeds of Dream Eaters.

At one point, when both Sora and Riku decided to take their mark of mastery exam, Yen Sid told them about creatures known as the Dream Eaters, creatures that occupy the sleeping worlds. Yen Sid considers them to be creatures of darkness, with how Nightmare Dream Eaters are known to feed off of the positive dreams of the sleeping worlds and corrupt them to their enjoyment. However the Spirit Dream Eaters were known for feeding off of nightmares and making sure the sleeping worlds will remain at peace for as long as they can. Both Sora and Riku noticed a few people in Traverse Town being able to ally themselves with Dream Eaters, such as Neko being able to summon the Neko Cat and Beat being able to summon a Kooma Panda. Because of this, Sora was able to summon a Meow Wow to help him and Riku was able to summon a Komori Bat to help him too. However, unknown to Riku, he became a Spirit Dream Eater himself, often helping Sora in his dream state. Both Sora and Riku went to fight against a number of Nightmare Dream Eaters while also creating a large number of Spirit Dream Eaters to help them out in their exam. Riku did also fight against a powerful Heartless known as Ansem the Seeker of Darkness when he was a Dream Eater and encountered a number of Nobodies too. Though when Sora went into a deep slumber, Riku had to fight against a Nightmare Dream Eater known as the Anti Black Coat, and a bit later the Nightmare Ventus Armor.

After failing the mark of mastery and befriending a large number of Dream Eaters, Sora was giving a summon charm to summon his Meow Wow Dream Eater ally for a few fights against Heartless, Nobodies and Unversed if needed.

When Kairi asked Ansem the Wise and his apprentices to examine her while she was sleeping, a possible version of Riku, a Meow Wow and a Komori Bat were seen fighting against a few Heartless, Nobodies, Unversed and Nightmare Dream Eaters.
