Feraligatr is a Water-type Pokémon species from the Johto region. Its life cycle includes a juvenile stage known as Totodile, and an intermediary stage known as Croconaw.
Biology[]
These Pokémon are bipedal crocodilians with sharp teeth and a semi-aquatic lifestyle. All three stages have five-fingered hands and three-toed feet. They're primarily blue in coloration, with yellow patterns on their skin, red dorsal plates, and red eyes. Their phenomenally strong bite has earned them the nickname of "Big Jaw Pokémon". The gender ratio in this species is of seven males to one female.
Totodile[]

The first stage, Totodile, stands about 60 cm in height and has long jaws, similar to those of an alligator. This creature is notable for its agitated, playful, and enthusiastic behavior. However, the strength of its crushing bite can turn even even playful nipping into serious injuries if not handled carefully.
Croconaw[]

The second stage, Croconaw, is taller and bulkier than Totodile, and has a comparatively shorter and broader muzzle. Its eyes are now triangular in shape, giving it a more menacing appearance. It develops a red Mohawk-like crest on its head, and its lower jaw is now yellow. Its teeth grow back if they fall off.
Feraligatr[]
The final stage, Feraligatr, is twice as tall as Croconaw and over three times as heavy. It is a heavily armored beast and can be distinguished from its earlier stages by the sharp claws on its digits. A ferocious predator, it uses its teeth to hold its prey and shakes its head violently to tear it to pieces.
Although usually bipedal, Feraligatr has some difficulty to support its weight out of water, and sometimes resorts to walking on all fours. However, it can still move very fast for a creature of its size.
Notes[]
- The ten-character limit for Pokémon names in English, at the time Generation II was released, is the primary reason why this species is called Feraligatr, as opposed to "Feraligator".
