Edward Gracey was a 19th century nobleman and owner of a mansion in Louisiana, until he hanged himself and was cursed to remain on the terrestrial plan as a ghost along with his servants.
History[]
When he was alive, Gracey fell in love with a woman named Elizabeth Henshaw, but their union was deemed unacceptable. Gracey planned to elope with her, but his butler, Ramsley, who didn't want to see Gracey ruin himself over a love affair, secretly poisoned Elizabeth and substituted a love letter she had written for one suggesting she had committed suicide. Despaired over the loss of his love, Gracey hanged himself.
Due to the circumstances of his death, he was cursed, along with everybody else in the mansion, and their souls were denied passage to the afterlife. Instead, they were doomed to remain as ghosts until the truth was revealed and the spirits of the two lovers could be united in death, as they were supposed to have been united in life.
