The Firebird is a giant, fire-breathing reptilian bird whose body emanates constant heat, strong enough to slowly melt entire ice sheets and glaciers. She emerged from the interior of a previously dormant volcano in an Alaskan island in 1978, and later headed to the frozen Arctic to lay eggs, but was defeated by Godzilla before she could do so.
Although she can survive immersed in liquid magma, she also operates just as well in the atmosphere or in the ocean.
Biology[]
The Firebird has orange skin, a long neck and tail, a head crest, membranous bat-like wings equipped with crab-like chelae, and a serpentine forked tongue. Despite its name, her species appears more closely related to reptiles than birds, especially with the wings, tail and tongue. The feet are very bird-like, however. Overall, she greatly resembles a Wyvern.
Besides fire-breathing, she can also attack by directing a powerful heat wave at her opponents. Amazingly, she can generate enough thrust to fly while carrying Godzilla in the air.

Notes[]
- She bears some resemblance to the classic Toho monster Rodan.
- Godzilla defeats her by trapping her in an underwater cave. This is the same technique he would later successfully employ against the Giant Octopus.
