Gastrodon is a Water/Ground-type Pokémon species native to the Sinnoh region, although wild populations may also be found in Alola. Its juvenile stage is called Shellos.
This species is well known for having two distinct phenotypical varieties: the West Sea variety (which is pink) and the East Sea variety (which is blue), which inhabit each side of Sinnoh's mountain range. Although its juvenile stage, Shellos, is a pure water-type, it can still be commonly found on land.
Biology[]
Gastrodon is an amphibious mollusk-like creature with three pairs of stubby legs, a relatively long neck and three eyes. It typically inhabits shallow tidal pools. Its boneless body is mostly soft and flexible, although its mantle still contains vestigial traces of the shell that once protected its ancestors. It's also capable of regenerating severed body parts.
When attacked, Gastrodon oozes a kind of purple fluid to distract its pursuer and escapes. Its diet mainly consists of plankton, but it will also venture onto land in search of other types of food. From an evolutionary point of view, Gastrodon is a distant relative of Cloyster.
