The Ghost Ship Captain is an evil spirit and one of the thirteen most dangerous and powerful ghosts in the world. As such, he and the other twelve ghosts were imprisoned inside the Chest of Demons for decades until they were unwittingly released by Scooby-Doo and Shaggy Rogers. He is capable of altering his appearance and disguising himself as a living person.
History[]
As his moniker indicates, he was originally the captain of what is now a ghost ship: the ill-fated Queen Mertyl, which sank beneath the waves while traversing the mystical Bermuda Triangle, circa 1935.
After being released from the Chest of Demons, the Captain disguised himself as a travel agent who convinced the Mystery Inc. gang to take a vacation aboard a cruise ship, the Queen Mertyl. The unsuspecting detectives joined in, unaware that they were boarding a ghost ship, and brought the Chest of Demons with them, containing the spirits that they had already managed to recapture at that point (Maldor, Morbidia, the Reflector Specter, and Zomba).
As the Captain and the ghosts of his former passengers set sail towards the Bermuda Triangle once again, Vincent Van Ghoul managed to contact the gang and warn them about what was due to happen, as the mystical energies of the Triangle would cause the Chest to be opened and the recaptured ghosts would escape once more.
Somehow, the chaotic energy of the Triangle caused the Chest's ghosts to appear as a single cyclone-like entity: a spiritual gestalt which also managed to absorb the Captain and the ghostly passengers before going after Scooby and the gang. Fortunately, they managed to trick the gestalt entity back into the Chest, causing the ghost ship to disappear and leaving the detectives to escape the Triangle in a raft.
