The Giants are a primitive race of colossal beings, which once served as guardians that defended Earth from threats.
Biology[]
The Giants are gargantuan humanoids who exist in multiple sizes and shapes; including variations such as hair-covered and even elemental beings, manifestly based on either vegetation, ice, snow or stone, although while there are some that may look semi to less human-like. They live for several millennia. The largest ones are huge enough to be easily mistaken for mountains.
Culture and society[]
Overall, they seem to be a peaceful species; content to idyllically live their lives in nature, and considerate enough to avoid using their great strength against the humans; even as the latter ultimately drove the Giants away from their lands due to the inconvenience of having them accidentally stepping on houses and other structures.
As a society, Giants appear to have been loosely organized and didn't build settlements, but acted as guardians of their land. An important tradition dictated that one Giant must, at all times, be acting as a sentinel; sitting atop the highest peak and watching over the land to protect it from potential threats from above. The exact nature of those threats hasn't been specified. Young Giants of both genders are available to be elected as sentinel; and must perform this duty for thousands of years before being replaced.
History[]
The Giant race flourished countless ages ago. According to the Wood Man's book; they were in fact the first living creatures to live in the valley between the mountains.
As the humans started to colonize the land and conflicts began due to the accidental destruction provoked by some Giants, the Giants realized that the world had changed and "just wasn't [theirs] anymore", as the Wood Man put it. As such, they collectively decided to leave; although the last sentinel, Jorgen did remain behind in solitude, waiting for his friend.
Nowadays, it isn't known where the Giants have gone; but some people believe that they simply jumped high enough to escape Earth and drifted into space to some unknown destination.
The modern Forest Giants are descended from them, although they are considerably smaller, and seem to suffer from a slight inferiority complex over not being considered "proper Giants".
