Giratina is a legendary Pokémon, classified as a Ghost/Dragon-type. Despite not being broadly known by the population, it is a pivotal figure in the mythology of the Sinnoh region, figuring as a member of the Creation Trio along with Dialga and Palkia, and thus governed by Arceus, who was responsible for banishing it to its own realm known as the Distortion World (a.k.a. Reverse World) for its violent behavior.

When in our reality, Giratina may manifest itself as a shadow. It is the only Pokémon living in the Distortion World, and is highly protective of it, taking measures to confront individuals whose actions may threaten the balance between the two realms.

Biology

This Pokémon has two different forms: its origin forme is the one it assumes in the Distortion World, whereas its altered forme is the one it normally assumes when venturing into our realm.

In its origin forme, it is a serpentine legless creature with three pairs of appendages that seem to function as wings, as well as a number of spikes protruding from its body, and a pair of bright red eyes. In its altered forme, it possess three pairs of legs, as well as a pair of wings. This altered forme is shorter in body length, but also considerably heavier.

Although history claims that it was "banished" to the Distortion World, Giratina has demonstrated the ability to freely travel between the Distortion World and the human world at will, and has been shown to be highly protective of the former, which it seems to regard as its home.
