Granmamare's daughters are tiny ningyo-like magical creatures who live in the sea around Japan, being cared for by their father, Fujimoto.
Biology[]
They have human-like faces with short orange hair and no teeth. Their bodies are red in color and shaped like a bell with a pair of short fins for arms. The way they swim is somewhat reminiscent of a flapjack octopus. They've been shown to survive just as well in sea or freshwater.
The only named daughter, Ponyo, is considerably larger than the others and also has a white circle on her abdomen, which her sisters lack.
Their saliva might have magical healing properties, as they have been shown to heal other beings' wounds by licking them. While little is known about their natural diet, Ponyo at least has been shown to enjoy ham, but not bread.
