Gryla is an Ogress that appears roughly once a year as part of some winter festival held in the city of Trolberg, where she'll search for children who are typically naughty in which case, will be therefore turned to stew.
Overview[]
Gryla is a mysterious beastly creature whose body is mostly covered in bluish-grey fur, has a thorny back with several small cages carried along top and a small pair of antler-like horns upon her head. Her hands possess four fingers plus an opposable thumb; although she only has three-toed feet and a long, bare worm-like tail. Gryla wears tattered rags as clothing, while her face is concealed by a slightly cracked white mask that allegedly protects her own skin from exposure towards moonlight.
According to Johanna's storybook, titled Winter Tales from Other Lands: Gryla goes into a seasonal period of hibernation thus once she awakes, will have the Yule Lads find anyone who have happened to be "naughty" of whom they then abduct and place in bags under the Sonstansil Tree which as a direct result of being on the night it annually blooms at where Gryla herself will arrive to take and eventually make those misbehaved into stew. Despite her crave for flesh, she can favor a vegetarian broth.

Notes[]
- She is based on a gigantess from Icelandic folklore of the same name. In oldest poems, which described her as a parasitic beggar who walks around asking parents for their disobedient children.
- It is unknown if whether there are in fact other Ogres besides Gryla, for she appears to be the only one.
