Biology[]

The Heartless are demonic beings drawn to darkness inside people's hearts, they usually have glowing yellow eyes. While the Heartless come in all different shapes and sizes; each more stronger than the other.

History[]

The Heartless originated from the Realm of Darkness, said to have been created from the darkness out of the hearts of living creature. Most Heartless native to the Realm of Darkness are often referred to as 'Pureblood Heartless', consisting of creatures known as Shadows, Neoshadows, Invisibles, Darksides, Fire Core, Earth Core, Water Core and possibly a few others such as the Lich. Some of these Pureblood Heartless have been summoned to the realm of Light, through the means of dark magic, such is the case for Master Xehanort, a keyblade master that uses the darkness in hopes to turn the world back to it's original form.

Although due to some tricks, Master Xehanort ended up possessing the body of a young Keyblade wielder known as Terra, his name if texted to be Terra-Xehanort and later called himself Apprentice Xehanort when Ansem the Wise took care of him. Apprentice Xehanort took Ansem the Wise's experiments of the heart too far and used himself, five of the other apprentices and a pair of children known as Lea and Isa to create artifical forms of the Heartless often refered to as 'Emblem Heartless'.

After Apprentice Xehanort's actions, the Heartless, both Pureblood and Emblem went to seek out either the hearts of all worlds of a weapon that is said to be able to eliminate them known as the Keyblade, many Pureblood Heartless often take on characteristics of the worlds they are summoned to, such as Bandits in Aggrabah, Wight Knights and Gargoyles in Halloween Town or Battleships and Air Pirates on Captain James Hook's boat.

A rare type of Heartless known as Ansem the Seeker of Darkness seemed to have been the cause of the havoc that the Pureblood and Emblem Heartless have been doing in the Realm of Light, although he was defeated by Sora, the boy who wielded the keyblade, Donald Duck and Goofy.

Although they may have just been memories, a number of Heartless seemed to have followed Sora to a location known simply as Castle Oblivion and Ansem the Seeker of Darkness appeared in front of Riku, a boy who sacrificed almost everything to see the outside world, as a type of ghost from his past.

After being reawaken and meeting Pete, Sora, Donald Duck and Goofy went to battle a few old Heartless such as Shadows and Soldiers in the Mysterious Tower. A bit after this battle, Sora, Donald and Goofy went to speak with Master Yen Sid about the Heartless and a new faction known as Nobodies, creatures that where created after the Heartless were released because of Apprentice Xehanort's actions. Sora, Donald, Goofy and some of their friends would continue to battle against the Heartless once more, again taking on the traits of the worlds they were summoned too, such as Lance Soldiers and Hookbats in Beast's Castle, Nightwalkers, Assault Riders and Bolt Towers in the Land of Dragons, Living Bones, Shamans and Aerial Knockers in the Pride Lands. Their have also be Heartless activity in strange places with similar aspects such as Magnum Loaders, Strafers and Devastators in Space Paranoids, a computer world in Radiant Garden and of course Aeroplanes, Hammer Frames and Hot Rods in Timeless River, said to have been the past version of the world known as Disney Castle. Sora was later told by Saïx in Radient Garden that all of the Heartless he has struck down was to help a group of Nobodies to create an artificial version of an entity known as Kingdom Hearts, despite this, Sora, Donald, Goofy and their friends and new allies continued to battle the Heartless until they reached a place called The World that Never Was, seeing Ansem the Wise ruin the artificial Kingdom Hearts and turning a number of those hearts that was freed into Shadows.

In a digital world known as the Datascape, a digial version of Sore known as Data-Sora had to fight against a number of digital Heartless copies and a virus that took on Heartless traits known by some as Bug Blox, Danger Bug, Metal Bug and Prize Bug, in hopes to clean Jiminie's Journal. a digital version of Sora's Heartless was also seen taking all of the memories and experiences of all of the defeated Data-Heartless, only to also be defeated by Data-Sora.

When Sora and Riku were asked to enter the Sleeping Worlds for a form of a Mark of Mastery, two Heartless from their past known as Ansem the Seeker of Darkness and the Dark Figure appeared to try and stop them.

The Heartless continued to attack the many worlds seen, first reappearing in Mount Olympus to attack Sora, Donald, Goofy and Hercules. Only for a rare type of Heartless known as the Demon Tide to appear in Twilight Town to attack Sora, Donald and Goofy. Heartless, both new and old were appearing throughout the many worlds, to stop the trio and their allies, even trying to fight against them in Gummi Space. Through some of the worlds, the Heartless also went to help the Nobodies, due to Organization XIII meddling with other worlds. In Monstropilus, the Heartless went to help creatures known Unversed since Vanitus was seen using the scream canisters to return some strangth he could regain. In the Keyblade Graveyard, various Heartless, Nobodies and Unversed were summoned by Organization XIII to fight against the Guardians of Light, until Terra-Xehanort appeared and the Demon Tide returing, leading the Guardians of Light to die by their hands. Due to the actions of Sora, time was rewitten so that Terra-Xehanort had to be fought off by Terra's Lingering Will, where Sora went to battle against the Demon Tide, where it went to consume as many Heartless, Nobodies and Unversed to become stronger, only later being helped by the souls of past keyblade wielders and destroyed the powerful Heartless. Master Yen Sid also appeared in the Keyblade Graveyard to fend off against other Heartless that appear. Ansem the Seeker of Darkness, said to be one of the most powerful Heartless was also finially defeated by Sora, Riku and King Mickey, telling the heroes to move on and that there is more to seek. Some Heartless, along with Nobodies may have found their way in Scala ad Calum until Master Xehanort appeared.

A number of Heartless was seen through digital means, such as Data-Sora's battles against digital copies of Organization XIII and Kairi trying to find Sora through her memories, due to him going missing after the battle in the Keyblade Graveyard.
