Hippowdon is a Ground-type Pokémon species originally discovered in the region of Sinnoh. Its juvenile stage is known as Hippopotas.
Biology[]
Unlike the hippopotamuses that they resemble, Hippopotas and Hippowdon are fond of dry places and have a natural aversion to water. They can be found in deserts and occasionally in deep caves.
Hippopotas live in colonies of about ten individuals. Instead of perspiration, their skin expels grains of sand. Their nostrils shut tight while they're digging. They can attack with jets of concentrated sand and create sandstorms. The adult form, Hippowdon, is a formidable creature, with jaws strong enough to crush an automobile. They're infamously easy to anger, and hold their mouths open as a form of intimidation display.
Males and females of this species display sexual dimorphism in their coloration. Male Hippopotas are mostly yellow with brown patches, while females are the inverse. As Hippowdon, males are yellow and females are grey.
