Houndoom is a Dark/Fire-type Pokémon species, originally identified in the Johto region. Its juvenile stage is known as Houndour. They're also known as the "Dark Pokémon".
Exposure to the Mega Stone known as Houndoominite causes this species to temporarily Mega Evolve into the form known as Mega Houndoom.
Biology[]
Houndoom and Houndour are fire-breathing canine-like Pokémon. They're mostly black in coloration, although the rare shiny variant is blue. Their muzzles and abdomen are reddish-tan, and they have grey bone-like ridges growing on their backs and ankles. They have three toes on each foot.
Wild populations of this species are known to occur in certain areas of Kanto, Sinnoh, Kalos, and Alola.
Houndour[]

The first stage of this species is known as Houndour, a medium-sized dog-like creature with pointed ears and a short tail. It is a naturally gregarious species which forms packs for hunting and has a complex vocal language to communicate with its kin and coordinate attacks. Groups habitually howl at every dawn to communicate ownership over their territories.
Houndoom[]
When Houndour evolves into Houndoom, it more than doubles in height and triples in weight. This new form has proportionally longer limbs and a much longer tail ending in a triangular tip. Its toes now possess claws, its eyes become red, and it loses its external ears, but gains curved horns instead. Female's horns are shorter.
Houndoom fight among themselves to determine leadership of the pack. The foul-smelling flames produced by this Pokémon result from burning down toxins. People who have been attacked by a Houndoom have found that their burns will never fully heal, and the pain doesn't fade with time.
Other Pokémon are known to shiver and flee when they hear the eerie sound of a Houndoom's howl. In the past, people who heard the cry of a Houndoom often mistook it for the Grim Reaper.
