Illus is a female Giant and Jorgen's lover.
Biology[]
Like the others of her species, Illus is an immense, mountain-sized humanoid who towers over the landscape around her. Illus's body is conical in shape, supported by relatively short legs, which gives her the appearance of being wearing a dress. Her arms are both thinner and longer than her legs. Unlike Jorgen, she has a proportionally shorter neck and a rounded head. Her skin is pink, with a stone-like texture and no fur.
As a Giant, she can live for millennia and is capable of jumping high enough to escape the gravity of the Earth and launch herself into space, where she can survive for presumably long periods.
History[]
At the time when the Giants decided to migrate from Earth to space in search of a new place to live, Jorgen was acting sentinel, so Valfreyja opted to stay behind and wait for him. In the meantime, she fell asleep, and as the years passed, her body was covered in so much soil, snow and vegetation that she became indistinguishable from the mountains around her. Due to the snow covering her ears, she didn't hear Jorgen calling her.
For the next centuries, Jorgen remained waiting for her, unaware that she was hibernating in the valley. The king of the Elves built his palace on the mountain that was actually Illus herself, until she was finally awakened by Hilda and reunited with Jorgen, at which point the two launched themselves into space, presumably to meet with their long-lost brethren.
Unfortunately, before they left, either Illus or Jorgen stepped on and destroyed Hilda's house without noticing: an incident that forced Hilda, Johanna and Twig to leave the valley and move to the city of Trolberg.
Appearances[]
- Hilda and the Midnight Giant (2011)
Notes[]
- The name "Illus" states from Hilda's Book of Beasts and Spirits.
- In the graphic novel series, she accidentally stepped on and destroyed Hilda's house although this part is given to Jorgen in the animated series.
