James "Logan" Howlett, a.k.a. Wolverine, is a mutant, possessing animal-keen senses, enhanced physical capabilities, three retracting bone claws on each hand and a healing factor that allows him to recover from virtually any wound, disease or toxin at an accelerated rate. His powerful healing factor enabled the supersoldier program Weapon X to bond the near-indestructible metal alloy adamantium to his skeleton and claws without killing him.

His powers weakened as he got older. He appeared to be aging faster than normal, his adamantium skeleton was poisoning him and his body was covered in various scars. He also had to pull on his claw to extend it to its full length on at least one occasion.
