Jirachi is a mythical Steel/Psychic-type Pokémon species, renowned for its ability to grant wishes every time it awakens from its thousand-years-long cycles of hibernation.
Biology[]
Jirachi is a small white-and-yellow-colored biped, although it rarely walks on the ground and prefers to move primarily by flight. Its limbs are stubby and its large head contains three triangular crests, giving it the appearance of a star. Each of these three crests has what appears to be a blue rectangular note attached to it. Like all mythical Pokémon, Jirachi is regarded as genderless.
Its most notable feature is the third eye located on its abdomen, which is usually concealed and kept closed. This eye is used by Jirachi to absorb the energy of the Millennium Comet when it passes by the Earth, every 1,000 years. During such times, Jirachi is awakened for seven days and may grant wishes, although some sources claim that one needs to sing in a "voice of purity" to awaken it, and that the wishes will only be granted if written on the notes attached to Jirachi's head (and since there are three notes, it can grant no more than three wishes).
During the rest of the millennium, Jirachi sleeps enclosed in a crystalline cocoon, although if it senses danger during these intervals it's still capable of fighting even while asleep. When it senses the arrival of the approaching comet, Jirachi can telepathically reach out to a friendly mind, as it needs this mental connection to be awakened.
In the anime, Jirachi is shown to have a playful and childlike disposition and habitually communicates with humans by telepathy. When it opens its third eye it can absorb the energy of the comet, and during the next thousand years in which it hibernates, this energy will be gradually released onto the surrounding land, allowing everything in the Forina valley to grow. If unleashed all at once, this power has the potential to perform phenomenal deeds such as giving rise to the abominable false Groudon.
