The Khiffah (Armasenex aedificator) is a social, arboreal monkey species which inhabits the world of 50 million years in the future. They can be found in the African and Asian rainforests.

Biology[]

Khiffahs are omnivorous, but feed mostly upon roots and berries. They're known to build large, communal nests on the tree tops, the interior of which is divided in chambers designated as living space or food-storage areas.

Each nest, or citadel, contains room for about twenty individuals, and is roofed by a compact rainproof layer of leaves and twigs. There exist multiple entrances, usually built near the tree branches which pass through the nest structure.

Adult male Khiffahs can be easily distinguished by the tough horn-like skin on their chests and faces, and also by possessing extremely sharp claws on their digits. The females and younger males lack these features, and therefore act mostly as builders and food gatherers, while the adult males are tasked with defending the colony from predators, such as Strigers.

Khiffahs are intelligent enough to employ tactics to turn their predators into prey. It is common for a seemingly-defenseless female to intentionally allow herself to be pursued by a Striger, luring the predator into a trap where the male Khiffahs can brutally attack it and disembowel it with their claws. This behavior is important in that it provides the colony with meat, to complement their mostly-vegetarian diet.
