Laputan "Beavers" are an unnamed species of small, semi-aquatic creatures which inhabit the artificial flying island of Laputa.
These creatures also appear in Miyazaki's first manga, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, as an example of purified creatures existing in a small repository of animals (The Garden) from before a nuclear apocalypse, being saved to be released after a re-purification of the Earth.
Biology[]
Although they vaguely resemble beavers, these amphibious creatures don't seem to have limbs. They also possess two pairs of red eyes and numerous sensorial whiskers. Their bodies are covered in brown fur, with the exception of the robust hairless tail, which is grey.
