Luvdisc is a Water-type Pokémon species originally identified in the Hoenn region. It's also known as the "Rendezvous Pokémon".

Biology[]

Luvdisc is a medium-sized, vertically-flattened fish, whose shape resembles a heart. It often forms schools, and can swim easily, in spite of its non-hydrodynamic shape and lack of visible fins. While it appears smooth, it's actually covered in heart-shaped scales. Its coloration is usually light pink, with the exception of the rare shiny variant, which is gold.

This species has a gender ratio of three females to one male. They prefer to inhabit shallow tropical seas and coral formations, and often nest among the branches of friendly Corsola. When they congregate in large numbers during their spawning season, the waters turn pink.

Wild Luvdisc populations can be found in the seas around Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova, Kalos, and Alola.

Cultural significance[]

Due to its appearance and its habit of swimming after couples it spots among the waves, Luvdisc is seen as a symbol of love, and is often given away as a gift to one's beloved. It's said that any couple who has an encounter with a Luvdisc while swimming will remain in love forever.
