Luxray is an Electric-type Pokémon species originally discovered in the Sinnoh region. It has a juvenile stage known as Shinx, and an intermediary stage known as Luxio.

Biology[]

Members of this species are lynx-like quadrupeds with tridactyl paws, a long tail with a four-pointed star at the tip, an oblate-shaped head, a short muzzle, proportionately large round ears, and yellow eyes. Their fur is blue and black in coloration, with yellow stripes on their forelegs. The interior of their ears is also yellow, as is the star that decorates the tip of their tails. The nose, in contrast, is red. In the extremely rare shiny variant, the parts that would normally be blue are instead yellow; whereas those that would normally be yellow are instead orange.

Wild populations of this species are typically found in the Sinnoh region, although they may also occur in some places in Unova and Alola. Like all electric-type Pokémon, their primary means of attack involves electric discharges.

Shinx[]

Shinx

The first stage of their life cycle is called Shinx and is also known as the "Flash Pokémon" due to its characteristic defense mechanism. When Shinx finds itself in danger, its fur glistens and leaves its attacker momentarily blinded, giving it time to flee.

Shinx is a relatively small creature with short legs, and hasn't yet developed the distinctive dark mane of the species. It generates electricity by means of a specialized muscular system in its forelegs.

Luxio[]

Luxio

The second stage, Luxio, is almost twice the size of Shinx and weighs more than three times as much. This creature has been nicknamed the "Spark Pokémon". It can be easily distinguished by its mane and by the presence of two yellow stripes on its forelegs, rather than just one.

Luxio live in small groups and are capable of transmitting electric shocks with their claws. This can be used to induce faintness in prey, but also to communicate with others of its own species by sending rhythmic electric pulses. Additionally, two or more Luxio will touch their tails to generate more energy, and allow them to deliver stronger shocks with their claws. Since these claws aren't visible in Luxio's official art and sprites, it is likely that they are retractable.

Luxray[]

Luxray, the third and final stage, is also known as the "Gleam Eyes Pokémon" due to its ability to see through solid objects and spot hidden prey with its x-ray vision. It uses this ability to hunt, as well as to locate its offspring when they get lost. Physically, Luxray is a menacing creature, more covered in black fur than its previous stages, and can also be identified by possessing three yellow stripes on its forelegs, and red sclerae in its eyes.
