Magcargo is a Fire/Rock-type Pokémon species. Its juvenile stage is known as Slugma and is a pure Fire-type, as it hasn't acquired its basaltic shell yet.
Biology[]
This Pokémon resembles a slithering gastropod made out of red magma. The rare shiny variant is grey in the Slugma stage, and magenta in the Magcargo stage.
In the Slugma stage, this Pokémon is shell-less, whereas in the Magcargo stage it acquires a snail-like shell made out of solidified magma, with fire constantly leaking from it. Like a snail, it can retreat into its shell for protection. However, it has also been noted that the shell is brittle, breaks easily, and is constantly being rebuilt.
The internal temperature of a Magcargo can reach over 18,000 °F (approximately 10,000 °C, which is almost twice as much as the surface temperature of the sun). As a result, water immediately vaporizes in contact with its body. If a Magcargo is caught in the rain, the raindrops will be turned to steam, creating a thick fog around its body.
Giant Magcargo are known to exist, as one appeared in the anime episode "Some Like It Hot".
Slugma[]

Magcargo's juvenile stage, Slugma, is very similar to it, but conspicuously lacks the shell. To avoid cooling down, Slugma has to move constantly, albeit slowly, and therefore never sleeps, unless it's near magma. If it stands still for too long it cools down and runs the risk of solidifying. Liquid lava runs like a circulatory system within its body, carrying nutrients and oxygen.
Wild populations of this species are common sights in volcanic areas, always seeking out warm places. They can be found in the regions of Kanto, Hoenn and Sinnoh.
