This odd creature is quite at home in magma. It stores and processes gas produced by the magma into a flaming projectile that it then spits out. Cowardly by nature, it sits with its eyes just out of the lava in order to detect any danger and flee if necessary.

Magma Spumes are a species of medium-sized salamander that was encountered by Skyloftians before the founding of Hyrule. While their entire range is not known, they were known to have infested the Earth Temple of Eldin Volcano by the Era of the Sky. However they have not been recorded since this time, and may have been driven to extinction. Deku Toads, seen millennia later, are physically similar to the Spumes and may in fact be descended from them, or at the very least the two are closely related.

Magma Spumes are extremophiles, and have adapted to spend their lives in lava flows. Presumably since their bodies are adapted to this intense level of heat they will quickly perish if removed from it. They are both territorial and shy, diving under lava should an opponent get too close. They have developed the ability to store and process gasses produced by the lava in a special organ that can later be launched as a projectile which can catch a target on fire. Adventurers can defend themselves from Magma Spumes with bombs or bows, although the wielder of the Goddess Sword could also take them out with Skyward Strikes. The Hero of the Sky also stated that he successfully crush them underneath large rocks found in the Earth Temple. Projectiles could be reflected back through the use of appropriate shield bashes, though the wielder must keep in mind that being fire-based projectiles means that wooden shields will alight. The projectiles can also be rendered ineffective through slashes with one's sword.
