The Mechagodzilla, a.k.a. Fake Godzilla or Kiryu, is a robotic daikaiju war machine made to mimic the appearance of Godzilla and intended to fight the original. Numerous models of this mechanical monster have been built, some more successful than others.

History[]

In some versions, Mechagodzilla was created on Earth by aliens - namely the Black Hole Aliens in the original films and the Bilusaludo in the anime trilogy. In other versions, it was created by humans.

In Terror of Mechagodzilla, the control mechanisms of the second Mechagodzilla were eventually connected to the cybernetic implants of Katsura Mafune, thus creating a neural connection between she and the robot, allowing the latter to operate as a more sophisticated being, as it now could use living, organic neural tissue as part of its matrix. When Katsura committed suicide, however, the connection was severed and Mechagodzilla was weakened, which allowed it to be defeated by Godzilla, just like its predecessor.

Mechagodzilla City[]

In the anime trilogy, Mechagodzilla was created by the Bilusaludo aliens as a desperate resource intended to fight off Godzilla. Before that could happen, however, mankind opted to leave the devastated planet and the Earth was abandoned to be conquered by the King of Monsters.

About 20,000 years later, the self-replicating nanometal from the remains of Mechagodzilla has expanded itself and formed a city-shaped structure. The city acts as a predatory organism, capable of extending gigantic spikes to impale prey such as the Servum and kill them by injecting nanometal. It then absorbs nutrients and material from them in order to keep growing.

The structures it creates mimic the shape of the installations where Mechagodzilla was originally built, and the nanometal is mined by the Houtua (who are themselves immune to it) and used to poison their spear tips.
