Say, would you mind if I asked you for a favor? CrimsonChaos and I have been talking about some of the wiki's policies and we need another opinion on the matter of how to decide which name should be used for some character pages. The discussion is this thread. If you could give us your opinion, we'd be very thankful
Also, we believe that this wiki could use another admin, especially since it appears that Gobi is no longer active. If you have interest, we would certainly like to give you this position, if you want :)
Just wanted to say, I really think the Monster Gallery should be renamed as Species Gallery, and the description should be rewritten accordingly. I'm not comfortable with using the term "monster" here, for several reasons, for instance:
It easily leads to confusion. Most people use it to talk about unique beings (characters) rather than species, and that's not what the gallery is intended for.
It's highly pejorative, as traditionally, it's a word meant to conceive things that are wrong, unnatural or unfitting. Using the term "monster" to refer to any naturally occurring species - especially sapient ones - sounds pretty wrong to me.
It sounds kind of silly, as well. Seeing species like Smurfs or Marsupilami labelled as monsters is awkward, to say the least, yet they do deserve a spot in the gallery, so I think it should be renamed.
Species Gallery is pretty simple and a fine name for it, in my opinion, and it goes along well with the Character Gallery.
The image has to be coded in the exact same manner as one would do without an infobox involved, sans the "thumb" or "frame" coding.
In other words, if you were trying to post an image called "Example.jpg", you would have to put the coding for that line as follows: |Image = [[Image:Example.jpg|300px]]. Keep in mind of course that the "px" amount refers to the pixel size and should simply be whatever shows the image off best. Usually that would be somewhere between 250 and 300px. However, on certain occasions I have gone as high as 400px.
Yessir, NAC here is the sister site to Alien Species Wiki, for anything that isn't an extraterrestrial or ultraterrestrial. :)
Of course, aliens are allowed if they're from fantasy-themed worlds, such as Warcraft, Might and Magic/Heroes of Might and Magic, The Elder Scrolls, et cetera as well, since they are both monsters and aliens, so count for both.
Such as this guy. Alien, right? I mean, it's "aliener" than a being from another planet. I thought about beings such as demons, too, but they are rooted in belief systems that see Earth as all there is.
