Mew is a mythical Psychic-type Pokémon species which is rarely seen by humans. It is a small, mammalian creature with powerful psychic abilities, including telekinesis, flight, teleportation, selective invisibility and the ability to generate energy bubbles. Once believed to be extinct, fossil remains of a Mew encountered in the jungles of Guyana were notably used to create the genetically-modified species known as Mewtwo. Individually, Mew and Mewtwo are each considered among the rarest and most powerful Pokémon in the world.

Mew has its own Z-Crystal which is called Mewnium Z.

Biology[]

Mew is a small, mammalian creature with short arms ending in three-fingered hands, and very large three-toed feet. Its overall built is similar to that of a small wallaby, yet it can hardly be considered bipedal, as it seems to move around almost solely by flight. It has a roundish head with feline ears, and also possesses a very long, thin and flexible tail. Its fine and delicate hair requires a microscope to become visible. Although usually light pink in color, the rare shiny individuals are light blue.

Mew is notably the only Pokémon which can learn every teachable move in the game, which is explained by it possessing "the genes of all Pokémon" in its DNA. Because of this, scientists have speculated that Mew might represent the ancestor of all the other Pokémon species.

Additionally, at least one source has claimed that Mew only becomes visible to "those people who are pure of heart and have a strong desire to see it".

Some individuals of this species are capable of shapeshifting into any other type of Pokémon, to the point that some have speculated upon a close connection between Mew and Ditto, as both species also have exactly the same weight, as well as the same color in both their normal and shiny forms.

At least one individual Mew is known to have a symbiotic connection to the Tree of Beginning.
